FAKE PERSONAS IN CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD FILMS

“She’s a true phony, but she is the greatest fake that I have ever known”

---- George Peppard, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

People throughout time have always been fond of seeing films, reading magazines, and witnessing performances that question their everyday beliefs of the norm. Throughout history, performances such as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s serve as great examples of how the World never seems to get enough of these comical arts of deception.

Truman Capote is the author of the novella Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which inspire the making of this classic 1960s film. Audrey Hepburn plays the stunning role of Holly Golightly in this memorable movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Her beautiful physical appearance serves as her very combative weapon in the role of Holly Golightly. She arrives in front of Tiffany and Company in a taxi cab, sipping on a cup of coffee, and is dressed like a member of high society. Holly is a stunningly beautiful call girl who is wearing the disguise of a rich woman. Deep down Holly is really money hungry and is in search of the wealthiest husband that she can find. The combination of these characters seem to be rather unattractive, but Hepburn puts on a highly charismatic performance through her role in this film.

However, the character of Holly is really another hoax in itself. Her real name is Lula Mae, who has left her family in the Deep South in search of a higher status in society. She even has a husband that is able to track her down in the heart of New York City. Her true country accent is on display in this scene when she proclaims to him, “I am no longer Lula Mae anymore, “I am Holly Golightly! I will not return to the farm with you!” Hepburn uses a rather southern belle like charm here, which illuminates her authentic roots. Hepburn is very attractive though in her variations of fake personas through this film.

Actor George Peppard enters Breakfast at Tiffany’s

playing the role of Paul Varjak. Paul is a starving young

writer who wishes to establish a promising career

writing novels in New York City. He is in a situation that

compares to Holly. Paul receives financial support from

a much older married woman, who treats him like a

prized catch on the side. This is his only hope for

supporting himself before launching his writing career.

Paul serves as the knight in shining armor to Ms. Holly

Golightly. He moves into the apartment just above her

and these two begin to form a very close relationship.

Paul and Holly end up falling in love with each other.

This really terrifies her because she is such a “wild

spirit” and fears being in love with a man. She sees

being in love like being held captive in prison. The truth

of the matter is that these two desperately need one another. Breakfast at Tiffany's serves as a hilarious comedy that transcends genres by becoming an unforgettable love story.

Audrey Hepburn displays unforgettable acting skills in her classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She holds the unique ability of being able to captivate her audience through her own artistic performances of deception. People can never get enough of the deceptive entertainment in Hollywood. This keeps audiences on the edge of their seats and always wanting more!
